Worked on forties alpha for about a year linking up the accommodation so prominent on photo.was there all seasons heavy weather in winter.massive waves we lived on a semi sub. The Belford Dolphin. Had to walk across the old bridge every morning, A bit hair raising at times.
With around 30 to 40 foot swells had to wait till bridge rested on platform then jump quickly off onto Alpha
I remember some blokes used to land on the Dolphin.
When it came to start work, they wouldn't cross the bridge.
So were sent home.
We were mostly carpenters before we started with Brown & Root in Gt Yarmouth. All from building firms around there Lowestoft or Norwich. After accommodation boxes were joined together we used to form the corridors to the individual cabins.
And fit the gas and fireproof doors.
The modules were made by us at the gas quay Southtown Rd Gt Yarmouth..
Would like to hear from anybody who worked on them with us.
