I was onboard Sedco 704 on a very eventful "tow " from the Claymore to peterhead for stripout. Encountering very heavy weather changing what was to be a 15 hour tow ..into a several day tow ..with the portakabins we were sleeping in ..sliding about on the top deck due to tiedown cables coming slack ..and getting stuck on a sandbank entering peterhead with the tugs pulling the rig well over [throwing us out of bed] ...then during the strip-out ..two giant cranes on dockside falling into the harbour [one had waited 3 days for the rig to come ] mercifully no one was killed or injured ..i watched the poor driver who was lucky to jump from the falling crane pacing up and down the dockside in awe of what had happened ..that was on trip I was very glad to go home from ..

I was barge engineer on the 704 for years during the 80's. Had some great times. It was a good working rig with great guys.

Many of these great times were during dry dock in Rotterdam in 1992 I think is was. How we all survived that period in shipyard is amazing! The towns of Oostvoorne and Brielle had seen nothing like it!
