Deepsea Delta
Deepsea Delta is a modified Ocean Ranger design third generation semi-submersible drilling rig built at Rauma Repola in 1981. The rig is rated for drilling operations in the North Sea in water depths up to 3,000 feet and has variable deckload capacity in operation of 3,500 metric tons and is equipped with a 15k BOP/well control system.
The rig is especially well suited to work in harsh environments due to favourable motion characteristics. The rig structure is certified to -20oC and has double barriers in the mud and pit systems which makes the Deepsea Delta suitable for the Barents Sea.
The rig is classified by DNV with classification + 1A1 submersible column stabilised offshore drilling platform for unrestricted service, worldwide operations. The next 5-year special periodic survey (SPS) is due in 2006.
Deepsea Delta has been employed continuously in Norway since launch in 1996 and was acquired by Odfjell Drilling in 2001 (ex West Delta).
